Minnesota Firearm season opens

It’s been a very busy week of selling licenses, deer scents, deer stands, deer calls and the like. The Park Rapids Minnesota Firearms Deer Hunting Opener is has arrived. A steady line of excited hunters pulling Ice Castles and ATVs have filled the Highway 71 north corridor.
We have beautiful weather this week and the forest is as fully stocked with hunters as the hand warmer bin at Smokey Hills Outdoor Store. We invite our customers that we call friends to post their deer hunting photos on our Facebook page.
It has been a very, very successful Ice Castle and hunting season at Smokey Hills. We want to thank everyone that continues to support us in everything we do. With your unwavering loyalty, we were able to set an all time sales record for a one month period in October. We are humbled and grateful. Happy hunting, stay safe!

Park Rapids Fishing Report 11/6/16 to 11/12/16

Surface temps across most lakes are around 50 degrees putting the fall bite in absolute full swing.
With the current weather being over 60 degrees a lot of people are torn between bagging a buck or a limit of walleyes!

Walleye/Northern/Bass– Hitting the deeper water for the smaller fish and bait feed in 12’-18’ of water. On the hunt for a VMC “Neon Moon eye” jig tipped with either a crawler or rainbow minnow for best luck!
Sunfish/Crappie– Swimming through a little shallower water in about 8’-12’ of water. Tie on a Lindy “Little Nipper” under a slip bobber and pair it with a crawler or crappie minnow to full the bucket!
