The staff at Smokey Hills have been busy preparing the grounds for the upcoming summer season. American Surplus (Ice Castle) has recently been delivering many custom orders to our return customers so the staff has spent more time exchanging fishing and camping stories than they would care to admit to the boss. Our staff always enjoys seeing repeat customers and listening to their memories from a year or two of fishing, hunting and camping in their Ice Castles.
Most of our customers have brought trade-in Ice Castle Fish Houses and Ice Castle RV’s which has our lot full of pre-owned Ice Castles. Hendri, Nate & Greg got together and decided to instate the “We Pay The Tax & Registration Sale” on pre-owned units as this has cleared the lot for new units in the past. Our HiSun™ GoPro™ video was well received and we are now offering aFREE GO PRO with every purchase of a HiSun UTV or ATV (starting at $4,699 or more).     “Stinky Cat” seems to have been popular from last week’s news, so a quick update is at hand. Stinky Cat has really came into his own in 7 short days as a Smokey Hills Outdoor Store employee. He has expanded his working area to include the front concrete apron, only when the sun has warmed up the area of course….

    With the sun shining for more than a few days in a row, the lakes are warming up faster and faster. On average the water temps from Fishhook, Potato, Island, Eagle, Two Inlets, and Long lake have been anywhere between 45-55 degrees. With the key spring fishing temperature around that 55-65 degrees, the lakes are as close as they have been all year for that perfect spring spawn bite!  Just in time for Walleye and Northern Opener May 14^th this coming Saturday, and Bass season May 28^th.

    Sunfish and crappies swimming through the same water depths waiting for the water to warm up a little bit more. Find them in 1-6 feet of water around any standing structure such as timber, weeds, docks, and rock piles. Fish are looking for a variety of feather jigs such as the Northland “Fire Fly Jig”, Lindys “Little Nipper”, and Custom Jigs and Spins “Flu-Flu” either tipped with a crappie minnow or leech. And for the tougher biting fish try mixing it up with some plastics from Strike King such as the “Shadpole” to entice those tough biting fish.
