The forest is once again alive with hearty Minnesota Hunters. They are shuffling through the latest Park Rapids snowfall and snapping twigs on the way to their deer stands. Muzzle loader deer season is open and many of us are still out there trying to get a shot at the big buck we missed during firearms hunting. Other than the hunters trying to muffle their coughs and quietly open their coffee thermoses, the forest has a silence that we haven’t experienced since last winter. Take a moment to re-connect with mother nature and enjoy what god has created. Welcome the crisp, cold air and make the best of what is going to come; ready or not winter is back for another long visit. If you haven’t ever ventured out for the muzzle loader deer hunt, stop by Smokey Hills Outdoor Store. Jared, Drew, Josh or one of the other SHOS employees will get you outfitted with what you need to put some venison in the freezer should a deer walk within range of your muzzle loader.

Smokey Hills Outdoor Store will be checking on Ice conditions around the area and reporting them weekly. The temperatures are getting colder which means water temperatures are dropping. Many of you know what that means.. ICE IS COMING SOON!! Looking at some of the lakes, we’ve noticed a sheet forming around the edges, but NOTHING close to walking on or fishing on yet.
