Park Rapids has been a traveling angler’s paradise for a very long time, but there is so much more to enjoy in the area.
Park Rapids is host to Legends and Logging Days and we had a record attendance this year. Smokey Hills Outdoor Store had it’s second annual Ye Old Archery Competition which had 525 registered participants. They also feature chainsaw carving and professional logging competitions. This event is held just south of Park Rapids off of county road 6.
Late summer is the best time to go berry picking and the Park Rapids area is ripe for the picking. Some of the berries that get the most attention such as blueberries and raspberries are beginning to fade for the season. Chokecherries, serviceberries, blackberries, elderberries, gooseberries, wild grapes and many more fruits are right here in our backyards. Many of the berries we walk by everyday are eatable. Buy the book “Wild Berries & Fruits Field Guide” by Teresa Malone to easily identify any berry in Minnesota. The book is available on Kindle.
2nd Street Stage is a community sponsored event that features live music every Thursday night during the summer through August 25th. Smokey Hills Outdoor Store was last week’s main sponsor and released over 100 SHOS beach balls throughout the crowd as well as gave away prizes. A beer tent, snack bar and face painting booth are all part of the get together. Admission is free! The event begins at 5pm next week (as opposed to 6pm) and is over around 8:30pm. Located on 2nd Street in Park Rapids.
